Dutch top cops reprimanded for accepting football, concert tickets: report

The National Police plans to impose financial sanctions on a dozen high-ranking police officers and former police officers for dereliction of duty. The officers in question regularly accepted concert- and football tickets from former Amsterdam police commissioner Ad Smit, who was dismissed earlier this year for the misappropriation of police funds, NRC reports.

According to the newspaper, Leen Schaap is one of those who will be fined. He used to be a police commissioner and is now commander of the Amsterdam fire department. Willem Woelders, deputy chief of the National Unit, and Jan Pronker, deputy chief of the Amsterdam police, will also be reprimanded. The fines involve a few hundred euros on average.

Smit was the most senior police officer in the Amsterdam Oost district for four years. He is facing prosecution for structurally using police money to pay for expensive dinners and tickets to events. He was dismissed in April for serious dereliction of duty.

A spokesperson for the National Police confirmed to NU.nl that investigations into dereliction of duty are ongoing, but he would not confirm NRC's report on the disciplinary measures.
