Video: Erasmus MC patients moved to new location by truck

The nursing departments of the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam are being transferred to a new building on Friday. A total of 80 patients will be transported - in their beds - from the old location Daniel den Hoed in Rotterdam Zuid to the new building on 's-Gravendijkwal in the city center. Seriously ill patients will be transported by ambulance, NU.nl reports.

The transports started at 8:00 a.m. The hospital hopes to have all patients in their new rooms by 5:00 p.m. Motorcycle police officers are accompanying the trucks and ambulances. And the roads are kept clear by traffic controllers.

This is the last step in the move for the Rotterdam hospital. The new hospital is more than 200 thousand square feet large, with 800 beds and 522 private rooms. Earlier this week the new outpatient clinics opened in the hospital. The hospital will be officially opened in September.
