Dutch tax money paid to Oxfam branch accused of sex parties

Dutch tax money was paid to the British branch of Oxfam Novib in 2010 and 2011, Minister Sigrid Kaag of Development Cooperation said in a letter to parliament. Members of that branch of the charity are accused of having sex parties with possibly underage prostitutes on Haiti in 2011, while providing aid in the aftermath of a massive earthquake, RTL Nieuws reports.

Fundraiser Giro 555 raised 15 million euros after the Haiti earthquake in 2010. That money was paid to Dutch branch Oxfam Novib, which then passed 8.3 million euros on to the British branch. The government contributed about a third of that money, which was therefore tax money.

Kaag also confirmed that the government has been aware of an internal report on the Oxfam employees' misconduct since April 2012.

CDA parliamentarian Anne Kuik wants a debate with the Minister on this matter.
