Japanese clothing brand Uniqlo to land in Amsterdam

Japanese clothing brand Uniqlo is heading to the Netherlands. Its first store is opening on Kalverstraat in Amsterdam this fall, the company announced in a press statement.

The chain is known for good quality clothing at relatively low prices, and caters to people of all sizes. Uniqlo wants to compete with H&M and Zara, according to RTL Z.

"We are very excited to be opening the first Uniqlo store in the Netherlands and to introduce our brand to Amsterdam, a city well known for its relaxed and casual lifestyle. I believe our LifeWear, designed around core items such as Denim, Ultra Light Down outerwear, Extra Fine Merino knitwear and more, will be a perfect match for the people of Amsterdam, every season of the year," Taku Morikawa, Chief Executive Officer of Uniqlo Europe, said in the press statement. "Our entry into the Netherlands marks the next step in our plans to grow our presence in the BENELUX region."

Uniqlo is currently active in 19 countries, including six European countries, according to RTL Z. The chain already has 22 stores in France, 11 in the United Kingdom, and three in Belgium. Last year Uniqlo's parent company Fast Retailing already opened a distribution center in Roosendaal.
