Trump names American-Dutch congressman as U.S. ambassador to NL

American president Donald Trump nominated American-Dutch former congressman Pete Hoekstra to be the new United States Ambassador to the Netherlands, NU.nl reports.

Hoekstra, 63, is one of Trump's advisors. He was previously nominated as a possible new director for U.S. intelligence service CIA.

Hoekstra emigrated from Groningen to Michigan with his parents when he was 3 years old. He was a member of Congress between 1993 and 2011 and served as chairman of the House Committee on Intelligence for three years. Hoekstra was also active in a conservative group within the Republican Party called the Tea Party.

The job for U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands is open because Timothy M. Broas resigned in January last year to spend more time with his family in the United States.
