Netherlands Airbnb bookings skyrocket: from 75,000 to 1.4 million in four years

Last year Dutch Airbnb landlords received a total of 1.4 million guests, according to a report the home sharing site released. The report has no figures for the Netherlands for 2015, but last year the Netherlands received way more guests than the 75 thousand of 2012, NOS reports.

There are currently 31 thousand apartments, houses or rooms in the Netherlands available to rent on Airbnb. A large proportion of them are in Amsterdam. According to the site, the average Airbnb landlord rents out his house for 28 nights a year and earns about 3 thousand euros.

The average Airbnb guest stays for 3.5 days. A massive 78 percent of guests to the Nethelrands come from Europe. And most of those (17 percent) come from the Netherlands itself, followed by Germany with 15 percent and France with 13 percent. Dutch landlords earned a total of 188 million euros from guests. Airbnb estimates that guests spent a further 607 million euros on restaurants, attractions, museums shops and the like.

In Amsterdam you are not allowed to rent out your home for more than 60 days per year and to no more than four people at a time. Recently the Amsterdam municipality and Airbnb reached an agreement that Airbnb will automatically block an address that exceeds the 60 day limit.
