Broken train traps hundreds of travelers in Rotterdam tunnel
A faulty direct intercity train left 450 travelers stranded in the HSL tunnel near Rotterdam for about two hours. A technical problem caused the train's lights to go out and it could not travel any further, NU.nl reports.
The train between Rotterdam and Amsterdam left Rotterdam Central Station around 6:00 p.m. with around 450 people on board. The stranded passengers were evacuated from the train starting around 8:00 p.m. They had to cross the tracks to get one one of nine buses, that transported them directly to Schiphol airport.
At the airport all affected passengers received a voucher from the kiosk. NS also arranged hotel accommodations for passengers who missed their flights and could only get a next one on Wednesday.
