Dutch Moroccan's video of iPhone found on street goes viral, challenges stereotypes

Dutch-Moroccan man Tobias Stamhuis has gone viral with a video he and a friend made on a phone they picked up on Saturday night. Before turning the phone into a police officer, the two men left a friendly video message to its owner.

Stamhuis and friend Leon posted the video, in which they inform the owner to go get her phone from the police, on the cloud in the hopes that the owner would see it. Stamhuis reminds the owner that he is a very sweet Moroccan. "The sweetest. Now I'm going to give your phone to a police officer. When you find this video on your iCloud, just go to a police station", he closes the video with a kiss and the words. "Remember, this is a Moroccan. And a Congolese. Remember."

Owner of the phone Sabina Kram did not even think of checking the iCloud when she realized her phone was missing. "I already assumed that I had lost my iPhone 6s", she writes on Facebook. "I spoke to an officer to ask what I could do." The officer asked her what her phone looked like and what its code is then fished it out of his pocket. "And says I should have a look between the videos."

She posted the video of Tobias and Leon on Facebook with the message "Super super super thank you!" and hoping to get in touch with them to thank them personally.

The video went viral. And Sabina managed to find Tobias, according to a photo she posted of the two of them. She thanked him with a cup of coffee, stroopwafels, couscous and a gift card.

NOS also contacted Tobias and asked why he put so much emphasis on the fact that he is Moroccan. "So that it can be said at least once that there are sweet Moroccans. With a little self-deprecation of course. I am half Moroccan and for once I wanted to show the other side of Moroccans. You do not always see the best image."
