Ten accused of insulting, threatening black politician

The Public Prosecutor is prosecuting at least 10 people for discriminating against, threatening or insulting politician Sylvana Simons, a spokesperson confirmed to NU.nl. Some are also being prosecuted for sedition.

Simons has been facing a flood of insults and threats since she announced her candidacy for political party DENK in May. At the end of May she stated that she is pressing charges against the "deluge of racist, sexist and discriminatory comments."

The Prosecutor could not say exactly how many people will be prosecuted. Not all suspects will end up in court, some cases may be handled in a different way, such as a fine according to NU.nl.
