Terminally ill boy's Serious Request call takes Netherlands by storm

Terminally ill 6-year-old Tijn from Hapert caused quite a stir in the Netherlands on Wednesday with his call for donations for 3FM's Serious Request. The young boy called on everyone in the Netherlands to paint their nails and donate to Serious Request, and he got a massive response, the Telegraaf reports.

Tijn has brain cancer a rare disease diagnosed in 15 to 20 children every year. Nothing can be done for him. "It is very likely that he will not make it to the next Serious Request. And yet he wants to raise money for children in the developing world who might not even make it to six." his father said, according to the newspaper. "We can not make him better. But we can temporarily make his life somewhat more fun."

Tijn challenged the Netherlands to paint their nails and donate a euro to Serious Request, or not paint their nails and donate 10 euros. The boy's call took over the internet, with #Tijn trending on Twitter, according to the newspaper.

Thousands of individuals painted their nails, as well as a number of celebrities including Marco Borsato, DJ HArdwell, Dorian van Rijsselberghte, PVV leader Geert Wilders and Nick Schilder. According to the website dedicated to Tijn's initiative, over 475 thousand euros has already been raised.

Didn't have time to 'update' nails but that is no excuse not to donate #lakaan #SR16 #tijn.
