Sack of gifts stolen off family's porch just before Sinterklaas arrival

Ravenna Bohmer and her family's Sinterklaas celebration ended in a nasty surprise on Sunday evening - their bag of gifts was stolen from their porch just before Sinterklaas arrived to hand it out, RTL Nieuws reports.

Ravenna hired a Sinterklaas and a Piet at a community center to hand out the gifts on Sunday. They were set to arrive at 6:15 p.m., so at 6:10 p.m. she put the bag of gifts on the porch. "We thought we could, because the living room is next to the front door. So if something happened, we would notice, and the gifts were outside for only a moment"

A few minutes later, Sinterklaas and Piet came in, but with no presents. After a few minutes of chatting, the Piet quietly asked Bohmer's partner where the presents were - they were not at the front door.

"We went to all the neighbors. But no one knew anything. My neighbor has a son about the same age as my son, so she gave one of his gifts to us. So my son still got something", Bohmer said to the broadcaster. She told her son that the gifts were stolen, but Sinterklaas luckily brought one extra. "He was still sad, but happy with the extra gift."

Bohmer is particularly angry at the person who stole their gifts. They spent about 400 euros on it. "Also because my son is seven and I think this is the last year that he will believe. He was so excited, and I wanted this year to be fun for him. And then something like this happens." She reported the theft immediately to the police, but so far the gifts were not recovered.
