Monument erected for teen struck by train

On Monday a monument was unveiled in Hilversum on the spot where 16-year-old Dascha Graasma was killed by an oncoming train exactly a year before. The monument to Dascha was created by two friends and consists of the letter D with a buttefly perched on top of it.

About a hundred people were present at the unveiling, according to regional broadcaster RTV Noord-Holland. Dascha's father was also at the unveiling.

"Her friends did this out of pure love", the father said to the broadcaster, describing his daughter as a butterfly. "She was always in development and wherever she went, she made people happy." He called the monument "incredibly beautiful".

Dascha was killed by an oncoming train when she ended up on the track along Maartendijkseweg in Hilversum after a night out on November 28th, 2015. The police believe she committed suicide. But her family disagrees.
