Amsterdam hospital reprimanded for not following surgery rules

The Healthcare Inspectorate reprimanded the MC Slotervaart hospital in Amsterdam for mistakes made in procedures around surgeries. "That could have serious consequences for patient safety", the Inspectorate said on Thursday, ANP reports.

According to the Inspectorae, the hospital does not store equipment and lay them out for surgeries according to the rules. This could mean that the equipment used is not sterile. The hospital performed surgeries in operation rooms not suited to the tpe of surgery. And the transfer of patient information between staff members must be improved.

The Inspectorate gave MC Slotervaart until the end of the year to fix these problems. Should the hospital fail to do so, it will be fined.

This is not the first time the hospital is making headlines. In July it was reprimanded for not handling medical equipment safely. Last year a book was published stating that the hospital did not declare massive profits made by producing heroin.
