Dutch police press charges over works council expense irregularities

An internal investigation into expense irregularities in the National Police's works council led to Police Chief Erik Akerboom pressing charges with the Public Prosecutor. The investigation revealed that criminal offenses may have been committed, the police announced on Wednesday, the Telegraaf reports. "The investigations revealed irregularities in the accounting of the central works council's expenses. These irregularities aroused the suspicion of criminal offenses in me", Akerboom said, according to the newspaper. Chairman of the works council Frank Giltay resigned immediately after the investigation was launched in June. According to the Telegraaf, the investigation revealed that at least Giltay and an entrepreneur that supplied services to the council are involved in suspected offenses.
