Champions League airs on Veronica starting next season
The Champions League will be airing on Veronica this season instead of SBS6. Parent company SBS Broadcasting decided to move the football league away from SBS6 after only one season to give the channel more airtime for broadcasting new Dutch TV series, the Volkskrant reports.
SBS Broadcasting and Samona own the rights of the UEFA Champions League for 2015 to 2018. Since SBS6 started showing the League matches last year, the station's viewer ratings increased steadily. At least a million people tune in to watch an average Champions League game.
"We still support the decision to broadcast the UEFA Champions League on SBS6 until now, but for the next season the situation is different", SBS CEO Peter de Monnink explained to the newspaper. "We are in the position to broadcast even more new Dutch series on SBS6 and that can not be combined with set football evenings."
