Video: White rhino born at Burgers' Zoo

Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem welcomed a new resident during the early hours of Monday morning. A baby whit rhinoceros was born to mother Kwanzaa at 4:10 a.m., the zoo announced. According to the zoo, both mother and calf are doing well. The calf is a male and was named Thomas by the caretakers. He seems to be completely healthy - he regularly drinks on his mother and gives a lively impression. Thomas and Kwanzaa will stay in the birthing room for the next two days at least, after which the zoo hopes to introduce him to the wide world. Until then he can be seen on this live feed:
The gestation period for white rhinos is 17 months. But due to their inherently large size and thick skins, it is very difficult to judge the exact birth of date without the aid of an internal echo. The zoo therefore started the live feed on May 6th already.
