Moerdijk chemical company fined €75k for violating safety rules

Chemical manufacturer Erca in Moerdijk was fined 75 thousand euros for not complying with safety regulations, resulting in an employee sustaining severe burns in 2014, NOS reports. The accident happened on May 17th, 2014 in Erca's chemical plant on an industrial estate in Moerdijk. Liquid ethylene oxide was released, which caused severe burns on an employees feet. The Public Prosecutor finds that Erca did not take enough measures to prevent accidents and the minimize the consequences of a spill, according to the broadcaster. The employee did not have enough protection and the safety procedures were not in order, according to the prosecutor. The Ecra factory in question is now closed.
