Greenpeace calls for ban on harmful herbicides

Environmental organization Greenpeace will be handing a petition to ban the use of harmful ingredient glyphosate in herbicides to Parliament on Tuesday. The World Health Organization labels this ingredient as likely carcinogenic, ANP reports. The petition was signed by over 161 thousand people, according to Greenpeace. Some garden centers already stopped selling herbicides containing glyphosate. Greenpeace believes that the Netherlands banning the use of this harmful substance will push the rest of the European Union to adapt their policy too. The Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, is discussing the matter on Tuesday.
