Resistance leader, 102, to lay wreath in Remembrance Day ceremony

Now 102-year-old former resistance fighter Hebe Kohlbrugge will lay a wreath on the Dom square in Utrecht on Remembrance day on May 4th, the Utrecht committee for 4 May - Remembrance day announced on Friday, AD reports. During the second world war Hebe Kohbrugge illegally set up a connection with Switzerland, the so-called Swiss Way. After the war she was awarded the Bronze Lion and the American Medal of Freedom for her efforts. The committee asked Kohlbrugge to participate in December already. "Almost no one is left, so saying no to laying the wreath seems wrong. I hope I'm still alive", she said to the newspaper back then. The great grand children of Oranje Vrijbuiter Leo Heij will also lay wreaths on the square. The Oranje Vrijbuiters was a well known resistance group that was founded in Utrecht shortly after the war started. The group was betrayed shortly before the war ended and almost all members were executed. The Utrecht commemoration will start with a silent procession to the Dom square. After the ceremonies there will be a concert in the Dom cathedral.
