Schiphol, security guards working to avoid strike over tough conditions
Schiphol management, security companies and trade unions met on Tuesday to discuss reducing the workload of security staff at the airport in an effort to avoid a strike, NU reports.
The introduction of a new security system at Schiphol Airport increased pressure on the security staff and their fatigue combined with long ques may lead to an increased risk of dangerous situations, according to the unions.
At the request of the involved parties, research institute TNO was called in to investigate the workload and the security staff's situation and make recommendations for improvements. Some of the recommendations made include making guards shifts shorter, making changes to the ergonomics and improving air quality.
The airport will look into these recommendations and investigate which are practical to implement. The unions and security staff welcomed the recommendations.
