Complaint filed against Rabobank CEO for lying about rate swaps

The foundation Renteswapschadeclaim (rate swaps damage claim in English) filed a disciplinary complaint against Rabobank CEO Wiebe Draijer for breaking the banker's oath by lying about interest rate swaps, the foundation announced on Thursday. According to the foundation, Draijer falsely claimed that Rabobank's own investigation showed that the bank did not commit forgery when handling rate swap files in an interview with Dutch newspaper AD on February 18th of this year. With these statements Draijer tried to hide the fact that the AFM filed rebuttal at Rabobank over backdated files a few weeks before the AD article was published. According to the foundation, Rabobank tricked its clients into signing documents which the bank then put older dates on. "The foundation recently reported that Rabobank had signatures put on old documents, which made it look like they were signed years ago" Pieter Lijesen, president of the foundation, said. "By stating in the newspaper that Rabobank's own investigation showed that there was no sign of forgery, Rabobank implied that it - and not the foundation - is telling the truth. For that reason we are now forced to come out with the facts, and we're asking for a formal confirmation of our position through a disciplinary complaint."
