First lapwing egg of the year found in Brabant town
The first lapwing egg of the year was discovered on Wednesday in a pasture in the Brabant town of Sint-Oedenrode, news wire ANP reports.
Wil Foolen and his partner Piet Delisse made the discovery around 4:00 p.m. "We came across a hiker who said he'd seen lapwings somewhere ahead and that there could well be a nest. When we got there there was one egg in a nest", Foolen said to the broadcaster.
They left the egg where it was and contacted the Brabants Landschap to report the find. The location of the egg was marked to prevent anyone accidentally stepping on it.
The first lapwing egg is not often found so far south in the Netherlands. Searching for the first egg mostly a Friesland tradition.
