Jihad recruiter sentenced to 18 months in prison

On Thursday the court in Breda sentenced 31 year old Salim S. from Tilburg to 18 months in prison, 6 of which probation. The court found S. guilty of money laundering, welfare fraud and trying to recruit young asylum seekers to join terrorist organization Islamic State, Omroep Brabant reports. S. repeatedly approached three young asylum seekers and spoke to them about ISIS and learning the Arabic language and asked them whether they want to go to Syria or Iraq. The court considers it proven that he visited the asylum centers De Bocht and Kompaan in Tilburg at least three times to talk to the young asylum seekers. The court emphasized that ISIS is guilty of human rights violations and terrorist crimes. "Approaching vulnerable young people is reprehensible, especially because it involves someone who fled from the area", the court said.
