Dutch filmmaker picks up animated short BAFTA

Dutch filmmaker Nina Gantz won the BAFTA award for best animated short for her film Edmond on Sunday. Edmond, which features animated felt dolls, was Gantz graduation film at the National Film and Television School in London, where she graduated last summer. Gantz won dozens of international film awards for Edmond, including an award at the Sundance Film Festival in the U.S., but she thinks the BAFTA is her greatest achievement, she told NRC in an interview on Monday. "The difference with the other awards is that my grandmother does not know them, but she does the BAFTA", she said. The puppet animation short film tells the story of Edmund, a man who loves those around him so much he wants to eat them. He looks back over his life to find out where his cannibalism originated. "Everyone recognizes the feeling that you like someone so much that you want a piece of that person. Tragic, because his greatest happiness becomes his downfall."
