Dutch burglar whacked German cop with crowbar; fled in a stolen Audi
A Dutch burglar attacked a police officer with a crowbar while being arrested in the German city of Dusseldorf on Wednesday. The officer was unharmed, AD reports.
The Dutchman, from Ede, broke into a home in the German city with a number of accomplices on Wednesday. The occupant was able to escape via a balcony and notify the police. Thanks to a tip from a witness, the Dutch burglar was arrested around the corner.
His accomplices sped off at "breakneck" speed in a stolen silver Audi A6, according to the newspaper. The police gave chase, but had to give up when the situation got too dangerous. The burglars are still on the loose.
The Dutch burglar confessed. His accomplices got away with an amount of cash.
On Monday two other Dutch burglars were killed in a car crash in Germany while speeding away from a crime scene also in a stolen Audi. A third burglar, also a Dutchman, was critically injured. The police are investigating whether they are part of the so-called Audi gang - a gang of Dutch criminals who commit crimes in Germany and the speed back to the Netherlands in fast Audi’s or BMW’s.
