Internet, phone outage strikes major Dutch provider

KPN is dealing with a technical failure that is not only affecting individual customers in several parts of the country, but also parts of the banking and payments system, NOS reports. ABN Amro is one of the banks struggling with its website and online banking, and that on the day the bank hit the public market. The bank attributes the problems to the KPN fault. The Tax Authorities are also struggling with a problem that resulted in a number of allowances not being paid to the about 7 million Dutch people who receive a temporary surcharge on their account on the 20th, according to NOS. It is not clear whether this problem is related to the KPN fault. The Tax authorities that the amounts will be paid over later today. The cause and extent of the KPN fault is unclear as of yet. "We therefore cannot say when the fault will be fixed" a spokesperson said to the broadcaster. Many KPN customers across the Netherlands currently have no access to their internet and telephone services.
