MP's investigated for security committee leak

The police have been questioning a number of party leaders in Parliament regarding a leak from the Committee for the Intelligence and Security Services that ended up with a NRC journalist, the Telegraaf reported on Tuesday. According to the newspaper, this investigation is related to the affair surrounding Internal Minister Ronald Plasterk and the 1.8 million telephone details shared with American service NSA early last year. Plasterk gave speculative information about this on television before informing the Tweede Kamer, lower house of parliament, which resulted in him narrowly surviving a vote of no confidence in February 2014. The Rijksrecherche, the police department that handles internal investigations, is investigating a leak from the so-called "secret committee", the committee for the intelligence services. This leak revealed that the cabinet did in fact confidentially inform the Kamer about the Plasterk-NSA affair. Discussions in this committee is supposed to be very strictly confidential. VVD leader Halbe Zijlstra has pressed charges on behalf of the committee, according to the Telegraaf. The findings of the Rijksrecherche's investigation remain unclear. Though the Telegraaf reports that there are sufficient leads to consider prosecution.
