Eindhoven grocery store’s Halloween display makes kids burst into tears

The Jumbo supermarket on the Nederlanderplein in Eindhoven went all out with their Halloween decorations this year, so much so that it drove one toddler to tears. Decorations include a grim reaper complete with severed head, severed limbs and cow brains. A number of shoppers described the Halloween stunt as "tasteless" and totally inappropriate" to Omroep Brabant. "A toddler girl was quite upset and started to cry at the sight of the limbs. I understand very well, it looks very gruesome", Claudia van den Heuvel, one of the upset customers, said to the broadcaster. A spokesperson for the store told the broadcaster that the decorations was intended to be "a playful action" but admitted that it might not be for everyone. The decorations has since been taken down. "I want to emphasize again that we are sorry that this toddler had such a fright." The Netherlands only recently started celebrating Halloween. It may take a few more tries before everyone has found the balance between "fun" and "too scary".
