Parents concerned but calm after pediatrician child porn arrest
A 39-year-old pediatrician was arrested on Monday suspected of possessing child pornography, the police department said in a statement. The pediatrician who was working at the Children’s Intensive Care unit of the Radboud Hospital in Nijmegen, and specialized in the treatment of patients under 16 years of age.
To date, no link was established between the images viewed by the the suspect and his work as a doctor, the police confirmed. "Given the nature and seriousness of the suspicion he has been immediately suspended," the hospital said in a statement. The medical center pledged its full cooperation with the ongoing criminal investigation.
He was brought in for questioning by detectives and the special investigators at the TBKK, an office that fights child pornography and child sex tourism.
The hospital has sent out letters to the parents of patients that were treated there during the suspect's time at the hospital. He started working at Radboud Hospital in November 2011.
Though the hospital said it was "very shocked and upset by this news," parents have stayed relatively calm, the Telegraaf reported.
"We never noticed or heard anything strange," the father of a patient told the Telegraaf. Another parent said their children were always treated well at the medical center.
Spokeswomen with the university hospital Marloes de Vink said that by the end of Monday they had received 27 calls from concerned parents who had not yet received the hospitals notice about the doctor. The accused is known throughout the hospital as competent and able, De Vink added.
