Gunshot scares at Dam Square, Amsterdam Centraal snarl tram traffic

Tram traffic in Amsterdam was disrupted after a gunshot fired in tram 16 on the corner of Rokin and the Dam. The area has been closed off. A gunshot also sounded at Amsterdam Centraal some time earlier in the day. According to GVB, tram lines 4, 9, 13, 14, 16 and 17 are affected. These trams have been rerouted. Exact details can be seen here. Bystanders told NU that two people were responsible for the gunshot in the tram. The police found the shell of a crack bullet. The suspected perpetrators got off the tram near Madam Tussaud's and fled. The police think that the two perpetrators responsible for the gunshot on the tram may also be responsible for the one in Amsterdam Centraal. The also found a shell of a crack bullet at the station and believe it to be from the same gun. It is not clear whether these two suspects were shooting deliberately or whether the gun went off by accident. "Either way we are looking for the two persons", the spokesperson said. A police helicopter has been deployed to help with the search.
