Chemotherapy at home trial starts for Erasmus hospital patients
The Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam has launched an experiment in which cancer patients receive their chemotherapy treatments at home, instead of in the hospital.
A total of 20 cancer patients will be participating in this trial this year, NU reports. These are patients who receive their medication through a syringe. Specially trained nurses from home care organizations Laurens or medical service Mediq Tefa will aid the patients in administering the treatment.
The "home chemotherapy" trial is initially focusing on patients suffering from multiple myeloma - a very serious form of bone marrow cancer.
The patients will rate their experience on treatment at home during and after the trial.
