VVD: Gambling office pools should be tax free to 900 euro

The VVD wants office gambling pools to be tax free up to 900 euros, instead of the current 449 euros. "If you win something, the government should not spoil the fun", VVD parliamentarian Jeroen van Wijngaarden said, the Telegraaf reports. The VVD wants to give more space in the rules for gambling in a small circle. Doubling the tax exemption for gambling tax is one way of doing so. It is a point of contention for the liberal party that lucky gamblers that forget to pay gambling tax for small amounts - conceivable, according to the party, in such an unfamiliar tax situation - are then considered guilty of tax evasion. These people may then face a fine of thousands of euros for forgetting to pay tax on a 500 euro gambling win.
