Dutch mountaineer dies after 300 meter fall in Mont Blanc

Dutch mountaineer Martijn Seuren, 32, died on Wednesday after a 300 meter fall in the Mont Blanc massif, the Dutch Climbing and Mountaineering Association announced, AD reports. Seuren was on the Arêtes de Rochefort with two other climbers on Wednesday morning when he fell. His body was recovered in a crevasse on the Italian side of the ridge. The Association called Seuren's death a great loss for Dutch climbing and mountaineering. Seuren had been living in Bern for several years. He was the second Dutchmen to be admitted to the Swiss mountain guide training. Early this year he became a member of the Expedition Academy. He would have gone on an expedition to the Gangsthan in the Indian Thirot Valley in the autumn. Seuren lived for the mountains. In an interview with the Associations magazine Hoogtelijn he said: "Actually I assume that I will die in the mountains. Naturally I hope not. I want to grow very old and if possible, I want to continue to climb well into old age. But if it does happen, then at least I followed my passion."
