Renovated Mauritshuis museum celebrates record attendance

The renovated Mauritshuis in The Hague attracted a record number of 600 thousand visitors in its first year after its reopening, the museum reports on its website. The Mauritshuis was closed for two years for renovations. It reopened its doors on June 27th last year. Before the renovations, the museum attracted an average of 230 visitors each year. According to the museum, 36 percent of its visitors in the past year were foreign visitors and 64 percent were Dutch. According to an analysis by consultancy organization Deliotte, the Mauritshuis provides 23.7 million euros and 626 jobs to the Dutch economy every year. Due to the peak effect after the reopening, the museum provided an additional amount of 8.6 million euros and an additional 228 jobs to the economy in this first year.
