Schiphol Airport launches new central security checkpoints
Schiphol Airport is opening its new security check points on Wednesday. The many dozens of checkpoints at the gates have been replaced by 5 central areas where passengers have to go through security checks.
According to the airport, the security check on people and hand luggage is now faster and more comfortable, NU reports. The security check for an ordinary traveler will only take about 10 minutes. For people traveling in business class, this will only take 5 minutes.
The idea behind this new system is to separate passengers coming from an area where the security checks are in line with European Union regulations and those coming from areas where this is not the case. For example, transfer passengers arriving at Schiphol who have come from an area with EU regulation security checks will not have to go through another security check at Schiphol. From the gatehouse they will go directly to the departure lounge. Transfer passengers coming from an area without EU regulation security checks will first have to go to the central security filter for a check before going to the departure lounge.
The same is true for passengers arriving with Schiphol as their destination. Passengers coming from an area with EU regulation checks will go directly to the passport control and baggage reclaim area. Passengers coming from an area without EU regulation checks will first have to go through a central security check before being led to the passport control and baggage reclaim area.
For departing passengers the new system means going through the central security filter immediately after checking in. They will then pass through passport control and enter the departure lounge, where they can shop or have something to eat until they have to board the plane. They will not have to go through any further security checks before boarding.
