"FuckDeKoning" protestor sent 500 euro fine; "A mistake," says prosecutor

On Monday activist Abulkasim Al-Jaberi received a punishment settlement of 500 euros for insulting the king and queen. This is after the case against him was put on hold. According to the Public Prosecutor, the letter was sent by "mistake", NRC reports. Al-Jaberri received the fine in a letter from the Public Prosecutor's Central Judicial Collection Agency, according to his lawyer Willem Jebbink. This afternoon a spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor in Amsterdam told NRC that the letter should not have been sent. "It's a mistake", the spokesperson said. The case against Al-Jaberi was revoked on May 8th. This latest settlement is dated May 11th, 2015. Lawyer Jebbink is furious about the letter. "Without any consultation with the defense a decision to prosecute has been made again. If my client does not oppose this punishment settlement within two weeks, he will have a criminal record for treason." Jebbink accused the Public Prosecutor of "legal foul play".
