Amsterdam storm damage victim dies from injuries

With reporting by Zack Newmark. A 71-year old Amsterdam man died on Thursday from injuries he received after wooden boarding crashed onto him during Tuesday's storm in the Netherlands. A strong gust of wind knocked over the boards at about 6:50 p.m. on Kalverstraat in Amsterdam, one of the city's most well-known shopping districts. Six others were also sent to area hospitals because of the incident. At the time, authorities said only one of the seven was seriously wounded, but it was not immediately known if this was the same person who later died. Police are investigating for any irregularities that led to the injuries. “It was a short, strong gust of wind,” one witness said shortly after the accident, saying that panic on the street made it particularly difficult to push the boards off the victims. He said emergency services were on scene almost immediately. Meteorological agency KNMI issued a Code Yellow weather warning for strong winds and thunderstorms on Tuesday that included the Amsterdam area.
