Pilot error likely cause in 2014 helicopter crash
The helicopter crash at the airfield in Hilversum in March last year was caused by an oversight by the pilot combined with the fact that the pilot and two passengers together were a few kilograms too heavy for the helicopter. That is the conclusion of the Safety Board.
"Most likely during the taxiing the helicopter, in a moment of reduced alertness form the pilot, hit the ground after which the helicopter rolled over the left skid and touched the ground with the main rotor." the Safety Board writes in their final report on the matter, which was published on Wednesday.
The helicopter showed no technical or motor defects, but the fact that it was loaded slightly too heavily made sure that there was very little margin for error. The weather may also have played a roll in the accident. The pilot can't remember anything about the accident.
The pilot and both passengers were slightly wounded in the accident, the helicopter was completely destroyed.
