World Press Photo pulls Italian's prize on ethics claim

World Press Photo has revoked Giovanni Troilo's first prize for his story titled "La Ville Noir - The Dark Heart of Europe" in the 2015 Photo Contest, the organization announced on its website yesterday. Troilo entered into the contest with a story about the Belgian city of Charleroi. World Press Photo has now discovered that one of the photos in the story, a photo of a painter creating a work with live models, was not taken in Charrleroi, but in Molenbeek in Brussels. This incorrect information puts the story in violation of the contest entry rules and his story was disqualified. The first prize will now be awarded to the second prize winner and the second prize to the third prize winner. There will be no third prize winner in the Contemporary Issues category.
