"Lost" ancient Roman coins set for Leiden museum

A Roman coin treasure that was unearthed in Buren are on exhibition at the Rijksmuseum Oudheden (National Museum of Antiquities) in Leiden from today. The treasure is comprised of about 162 silver coins from the 3rd century. The owner of these coins probably buried them for safekeeping, according to the Museum. They were discovered by amateur archaeologists in the mud dredged from a ditch in the Buren area. De Nederlandsche Bank purchased the coins and called it a "very special find". The coins will be exhibited in the central hall of the museum until March 29th.
