Free road salt handed out to Utrecht residents

Everyone in Utrecht could collect free road salt yesterday. Officials from the City Works handed out the salt at the district stations. This past weekend was very busy for the Utrecht weather countermeasures. In two days all the main roads for cars and bikes were salted six times. A total of about 300 thousand kilograms of salt were sprinkled on the roads of Utrecht. But according to the municipality, that does not mean that the roads and sidewalks that weren't sprinkled with salt won't be slick. Which is why they decided to distribute the salt so that residents can sprinkle salt on sidewalks that are slick themselves.
