Drone film of Utrecht's Dom church could net stiff fine

Jelte Keur may face a fine of 7,800 euro for filming the Utrecht Dom Tower with a drone without applying for a permit.

With his drone Keur filmed the Dom Tower in the fog. The spectacular video has gotten more than 530 views on YouTube and Keur has been flooded with positive reactions. But he still may face a hefty fine for filming with his drone without a permit.

Keur thinks its a shame that there are such strict rules for filming with remote control helicopters and planes. According to him, accidents with drones rarely happen. He is awaiting the consequences.

Meanwhile, the seller of his drone has announced that he will help pay the fine if Keur gets one. The drone manufacturer, V-Nix Aerial Systems, thinks that with his Dom film, Keur shows just how wonderful the possibilities are.

The municipality of Utrecht thinks it is a beautiful film. He won't get a penalty from the municipality, because the aviation police is the agency that maintains infringements with drones.
