Opp. parties agree on tax plan, gov't cuts

The CDA and D66 are working together in the discussions with the Cabinet over a new tax system. The parties do not want to wait for windfalls before the system is revised, they find that the government needs to cut back on its own expenditure. According to D66 Parliamentarian Koolmees, there has been contact between the two opposition parties in recent weeks, which has led to a "substantive agreement". A spokesperson for the CDA speaks of "a common approach". Starting today the financial spokespeople of all fractions in the Second Chamber join State Secretary Eric Wiebes and Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem of Finance. They want to gain broad support for a new tax system. Revision of the tax system takes years. Earlier Prime Minister Rutte said that they are searching for the widest possible political and social support.
