Rotterdam wants ideas for new music venue

The municipality of Rotterdam possibly wants to build a new mid-sized music venue in the city. On Wednesday the council called for plans to be submitted. The idea is a hall that can accommodate between 700 and 1,200 visitors. "The venue should be a place where local, national and international acts can turn when they have outgrown the existing Rotterdam venues." says Adriaan Visser, alderman responsible for cultural affairs. The alderman stressed that this will not be a municipal venue. It depends on the plans whether or not a subsidy will be given. The plans submitted to the municipality will be reviewed by the Rotterdam Council for Art and Culture. After the first selection, the submitters of the three best plans can conduct further research. If none of the plans meet the requirements, there will be no venue. The council hopes to make a decision on the best plan before the summer.
