"Girls" use cake in elderly woman scam

A 92 year old resident of Breda became the victim of one of the many "chat scams" in recent times. The 92 year old Mrs Bakker gave directions to two women. Later that same day the women came back to thank Mrs Bakker with a piece of cake, and stayed to share the cake with her. The women where never out of Mrs Bakker's sight and she forgot about the visit until the bank phoned her daughter regarding suspicious transactions on Mrs Bakker's debit card. After some urging, Mrs Bakker remembered the "two girls" and the weird phone call a few days later. Daughter Alexandra (55) does not want to go into detail abut the stolen amount, BN DeStem reports. It was a lot of money to her mother, she says, but it can be reimbursed. But the emotional blow her mother took can not be reimbursed. She looks pale and sunken, feels old and defenseless - like she's losing her grip. The culprits behind chat scams - thieves who under false pretenses enter the home of people to chat - choose their victims with care of the nastiest kind. Of the nearly 30 casualties in Central and West Brabant in the first half of 2014, almost three quarters were over 80 years old.
