Beverwijk Bazaar busted for bogus goods

Eight major brand names have filed a lawsuit against De Bazaar in Beverwijk for facilitating trade in counterfeit goods. These brands include Armani, Beats by Dr. Dre, Björn Borg, Chanel, and True Religion. Coty Inc., the owner of Davidoff and Joop, is also part of the lawsuit. The announcement was made on Monday by the law office Deterink Advocates and Notaries which is representing the trademark owners. According to the trademark owners there is a continuous promotion of the trade in counterfeit goods at the Beverwijk market. Over the last several months a team of shoppers repeatedly went to the Bazaar to buy test goods. These goods were investigated by the trademark owners and determined to be counterfeit, the attorneys claimed. Following this, requests had been made to De Bazaar to act against counterfeit trading, and yet the team of shoppers found counterfeit goods sales continuing unabated on their next visits. It was then decided that the fraudulent sales should be reported to the police. The attorneys say police were asked to investigate the role and involvement of the Bazaar organization in what they called systematic illegal practices, De Telegraaf reports.
