20 hurt in football victory lap accident

No less than 20 people in Waardenburg, Gelderland required medical attention Saturday night when a farming trailer they were on capsized.

The accident plunged what was supposed to be a party for two football teams into near-tragedy. Celebrating the win and promotion of two different teams at club WNC, supporters loaded the teams onto the trailer and a tractor tugged them through the neighborhood; twenty young people hopped on board to make the joyful victory lap, but things turned ugly as the vehicle titled when it had to take the intersection of Achterweg and Slimweiweg. All were injured. Police say there were bruises and cuts. Emergency services rushed to the scene with two trauma helicopters and ten ambulances Of the 20 passengers, 11 were transported to the hospital in Utrecht; seven went to the local medical center. An investigation into the accident is ongoing. Daria Appel contributed to this report.
