Helmet Cam shows moto cop's daily dangers

A motorcycle cop from Nijmegen, Motoragent Roy Willemse, turned his helmet camera on during an urgent call to a car crash where people were injured, the NRC reports. Willemse hopes that people will be able to understand the daily lives of the emergency services who have to race through traffic with sirens blaring and lights flashing. The videos are not only meant to be educational, Willemse tells De Gelderlander. The images from his videos can also help him keep himself safe. "Some time ago, after a few experiences as commander of the motor drivers including one abuse during an emergency help service, I got the idea that wearing a helmet cam could add to my own safety. The images can serve as evidence as well", Willemse says. Willemse's unit, Nijmegen-South traffic police, has placed helmet cam images on YouTube earlier this month, but then of various training exercises. Police in The Hague have been placing motorcycle videos online on a YouTube channel for some time already. The fire department in Schoonhoven does something similar as well. The United States has been filming police operations as well with helmet cameras.
