Blind man victim knock-out game A'dam Central

A 56-year-old blind man, Charles Steijger, from Edam, was knocked down without a warning, Monday evening near Amsterdam Central. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Steijger instinctively ducked to the ground after the initial blow, but no more blows followed.

'I thought I had run into a street sign, that happens sometimes,' said the victim. His 18-year-old daughter who was with him told him he had been hit. She initially took after the suspects, but quickly reconsidered when she noticed her father was bleeding heavily. First responders told Steijger about the knock-out game, popular in the U.S.A. and now also in Great Britain. The intent of the "game" is to knock out a random passer by with one blow. Police will not yet confirm that. A similar game, happy slapping, became popular in Amsterdam a year ago, where a person was kicked down while it was being filmed. Police managed to put a stop to that fairly quickly. Police are studying video footage in hopes of identifying the suspects. Witnesses are also asked to report to the Amsterdam police.
