"Meldpunt" highlights home raids on Nederland2

The TV program "Meldpunt" on Nederland2 will elaborately highlight home raids Thursday evening at 19:25. Frans Heeres, responsible for High Impact Crimes at the Dutch police, will be a guest. Although the number of home raids dropped in 2013, the impact on the victims is significant, especially in elderly victims.

Many elderly don't file police reports when they fall victim to distraction burglary, out of shame. Heeres will explain and stress why victims should not be ashamed. The entire episode of "Meldpunt" will be dedicated to home raids, what the police does to prevent this type of crime, and what people can do to prevent it from happening to them. Research shows that although elderly are "more likely targets, " they also tend to be more assertive then expected. This results in a higher risk of unnecessary injuries. Heeres will share the RAAK-principle with the audience:

  • Rustig blijven (stay calm)
  • Accepteren (accept orders)
  • Afgeven (give them what they ask for)
  • Kijk goed (observe what the robber looks like or what kind of car he drives)

"Meldpunt" will be broadcast on Nederland 2 at 19:25 and the show will be dedicated to home raids and distraction burglary; the rerun will be on Friday, February 7 at 13:20 on Nederland 2.
